HAYDEN

Hayden is a awesome little kid who helped get our project on its feet. A little boy who has been battling cancer since the age of 16 months. Because of Hayden I was contacted by at least 4 other families in Cedar City and Enoch who have been affected by this condition. He is the reason the donor regeterity has 68+ candidates added. An inspiration to us all.

Bone Marrow Donor Drive
In a two-day live event, I with the help of my coworker sand collogues held a bone marrow drive to find viable candidates for bone marrow donation. We are doing this in partnership with Be the Match, the national bone marrow donor registry for the US and the world. In each live event we swab the potential candidates and send the results to the registry. Then they wait until they are matched with a person in need of a transplant.

My project came actually came to me through a coworkers history. Our “poster Child” Hayden. He is the son of my coworker who was diagnosed with Leukemia at age of 16 months, and recently another coworker had a family member diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 16 yr. I took it on for them.
Some of the challenge I found were people. People have sever misconceptions about bone marrow donation. They believe they it is painful and that is a durance to donate. Also the time constraint. People lead busy lives. Its hard to find people who say they will find the time to donate if ever called to.
It’s a bone marrow drive, to help rid cancer.
My project not only bring me joy to see others help and step up to donate, but it also shows other people that we all aren’t heartless. It makes everyone human. It brings me joy to see others get excited to save lives.
“Its incredible how something as simple as a check swap can be a stepping stone to saving a life.”

Collaborative Leadership

Viable Bone Marrow Donor

Abstract
I will be serving as the Vice President of a student chapter of USITT; a National recognized organization that allows young technicians and designers to network and gain experience. My goal will be to provide fundraisers and leadership on how to get our chapter to the conference to find employment for our club members.
Be the Match is a national organization whose main goal is to find donors for patients who suffer from various forms of Leukemia and other life threating diseases.  I propose a project that allows testing by a simple swab of both cheek, for employees of premier pediatrics, and myself and for the duration of a month, parents with their children’s well child check; along with a dedicated day for just testing. With this project we want to expand the search for viable bone marrow donors to save lives of those nationwide
I changed it because a new and more relevant opportunity was given to me. A chance to save lives with my edge project.
Goals
Get SUU USITT Chapter to the conference this year. It will be held in SLC 2. Train underclassmen of the professionally of the theatre world 3. Show other students how to network and market themselves in the professional industry.
The goal was to train and get volunteers to run and work with Be the Match in finding viable candidates for bone marrow donation.
My goal changed when I changed my project
Objectives
To obtain a higher knowledge on how to train other people as a group. 2. How to work cohesively with other board members.
The new objective was to spread awareness about bone marrow donation and how it affect anyone anywhere.
They were met, because I had a wide range of volunteers who heard about what I was doing and wanted to help out with the donor drive.
Deliverables
A new set of Constitution and Bylaws regarding policy on new members and the expectations of the board members training.
Over 200 donor check swabs for viable candidates to be put on the donor registry.
My Objectives:

1: Educate about bone marrow donation
2: Find bone marrow donors for the national registry
3: Help find matches to save lives across the nation and world

My Project is one to educate people about bone marrow donation as well as finding viable candidates for the Bone Marrow donation registry. This is don't in compliance with Be the Match. The national bone marrow registry.
